Monothreads for Hair Regrowth

Monothreads (PDO threads) are a minimally invasive solution designed to support hair regrowth. They work by anchoring the scalp tissue and enhancing blood flow, which nourishes and stabilizes weakened hair follicles. At The Derm Edit, we use fine, absorbable threads placed into the scalp to mechanically anchor tissue and improve local blood flow—helping nourish and stabilize weakened hair follicles.

Who It’s For

How It Works

Monothreads are smooth polydioxanone (PDO) sutures, the same material used in internal surgery. When inserted into the scalp, they act as physical scaffolds—stimulating collagen production, improving microcirculation, and anchoring the hair follicle zone.

Over 3–6 months, the threads naturally dissolve while continuing to stimulate fibroblasts and tissue repair. The result is better scalp support and a more resilient hair growth environment.

What Happens During a Session?

The procedure is performed under topical or local anesthesia. After cleansing the scalp, fine monothreads are inserted into targeted areas using a blunt-tip cannula. Each zone is carefully planned not only to maximize vascular stimulation and coverage but also to ensure comfort, safety, and predictable outcomes for the patient.

You may feel mild pressure, but most patients tolerate the session comfortably. The treatment takes about 30–45 minutes with minimal downtime. Some swelling or tightness is normal and resolves in a few days.

Results & Aftercare

Results begin to appear gradually over 4–8 weeks as the threads stimulate local regeneration. Many patients notice stronger hair anchoring, reduced shedding, and improved hair quality within 2–3 months.

Follow-up sessions can be spaced 6–9 months apart depending on response. For enhanced outcomes, this treatment is often paired with Exosomes or PRF, as these regenerative therapies complement the scaffolding effect of the threads and accelerate follicular recovery.
